We welcome visits by school groups:-

Schools visits are FREE! We offer a range of workshops to schools on a range of National Curriculum topics (see below). All visits include a tour of the watermill where pupils can watch the waterwheels turn the ancient wooden machinery and witness grain being ground into flour. All sessions are led by an experienced team of education staff.

Rural Life in Tudor Times

Explore the daily routine of a farming family in the 16th century. Have a go at some tasks from the fields and in the home. Handle artifacts, discover the uses of herbs and try on some country costume.

Victorian Country Life

Discover what life was like in the countryside in the past, find out about the farming year, have a go at butter-making and try on some Victorian clothes.

Victorian Toys and Games

How were toys different in the past? A chance to play with some traditional games including the Jolly Sailor, Cup and Ball and Zoetrope.

Forces and Motion

An ideal science workshop to go with the watermill tour. Lots of fun activities to try out with gears, pulleys, friction and waterwheels.

Pond Dipping

Find out what’s lurking in the mill pond. Children will be able to discover minibeasts up close and catch creatures to identify.

Harvest

Help prepare for a day’s work in the fields. Discover harvest jugs, tools and corn dollies. Learn some harvest sayings and plait a straw dolly to take away.
