Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th July 2010, 12-5pm both days Tudor FestivalIn 1596 the lease of the mill was taken over by Ursula Leche, of nearby Carden Hall. This weekend we will be reflecting the thriving atmosphere of the mill in Tudor times with a wide range of activities. Take a tour with a Tudor miller and see the ancient technology of the mill in action. Discover country cures and herbal remedies of the times, play period games and find out what Tudor country folk could have for dinner. The sergeant of the local militia will be on the lookout for vagabonds and troublemakers with offenders being placed in the stocks. 16th century music will be performed on a range of fascinating instruments by Richard and Elizabeth York. Simply relax and listen, or join in on percussion, or even learn a Tudor country dance. Admission is free this weekend.
Thursday 19th August 2010, 7.30pm start The Miller's Tale - an evening entertainment at Stretton WatermillStoryteller Tom Hughes explores the role of millers in folk tales, from
Chaucer to the Brothers Grimm. Gathering in the atmospheric setting of
the ancient mill, he will take you on a journey through the stories contrasting
the images of cheats and misers to the idea of 'the jolly miller'. Our
real millers, who are jolly of course, will then lead an informal trip
around the working watermill. Tickets priced £6.50, includes storytelling,
mill tour, drink and nibbles. Adults and children over 14 years only for
this evening event. Saturday 11th & Sunday 12th September 2010, 1-5pm both days
