Saturday 19th & Sunday 20th July 2008, 12 - 5pm both days In 1596 the lease of the mill was taken over by Ursula Leche, of nearby
Carden Hall. This weekend we will be reflecting the thriving atmosphere
of the mill in Tudor times with a wide range of activities. Take a tour
with a Tudor miller and see the ancient technology of the mill in action.
Discover country cures and herbal remedies of the times, play period games
and find out what a Tudor country folk could have for dinner. 16th century
music will be performed on a range of fascinating instruments by Richard
and Elizabeth York, it’s your choice to just relax and listen, join
in with percussion or even learn a Tudor country dance. Admission
free this weekend.
Medieval Miller Meet our medieval miller and find out about Stretton Watermill in 1351. Hear his tales, find out why he plays the bagpipes and why his eel trap is so important. Discover how the different plants and trees around the mill were used. You can also take a tour of the working mill with a modern miller!
Saturday 9th & Sunday 10th August 2008 - 5pm both days Eco Weekend Stretton Watermill has been using non-polluting renewable energy for over 650 years. Come along this weekend to find out more about environmentally friendly sources of power and experiment with working models using water power. Find out more about the wildlife and nature in the mill environment too – children can even make some insect models to take away.
Saturday 13th & Sunday 14th September 2008 1 - 5pm both days The mill will be joining in this national event organised by the Civic
Trust, aiming to open the doors to free access to architectural and
historic treasures. Take a tour to find out the story of the watermill
through the ages. Admission free this weekend.
Victorian Food Weekend In addition to seeing wheat being ground into flour, there are other
traditional food themes this weekend. Try your hand at turning cream into
butter, help us turn apples from the mill’s trees into juice, and
discover some period recipes. There will also be Victorian fun and games
for children of all ages!
