Tudor Festival

In 1596 the lease of the mill was taken over by Ursula Leche, of nearby Carden Hall. This weekend we will be reflecting the thriving atmosphere of the mill in Tudor times with a wide range of activities. Take a tour with a Tudor miller and see the ancient technology of the mill in action. Discover country cures and herbal remedies of the times, play period games and find out what Tudor country folk could have for dinner. The sergeant of the local militia will be on the lookout for vagabonds and troublemakers with offenders being placed in the stocks. 16th century music will be performed on a range of fascinating instruments by Richard and Elizabeth York. Simply relax and listen, or join in on percussion, or even learn a Tudor country dance. Admission is free this weekend.

Thursday 19th August 2010, 7.30pm start

The Miller's Tale - an evening entertainment at Stretton Watermill

Storyteller Tom Hughes explores the role of millers in folk tales, from Chaucer to the Brothers Grimm. Gathering in the atmospheric setting of the ancient mill, he will take you on a journey through the stories contrasting the images of cheats and misers to the idea of 'the jolly miller'. Our real millers, who are jolly of course, will then lead an informal trip around the working watermill. Tickets priced £6.50, includes storytelling, mill tour, drink and nibbles. Adults and children over 14 years only for this evening event.
Booking is essential for this event, call Cheshire West Museums on 01606 271640.
